It didn't hurt too much until I sneezed. Then it was enough to make me scream. Anatomically I think the ribs have a lot of connective tissue which is susceptible to PR pain. I'm not sure about the spine connective tissue.

I was diagnosed one yr. ago. So far it hasn't changed my lifestyle, but for a few hours at a time. I am keeping a log of my attacks or "flares" My Doc is recommending methotrexate, but I am trying to avoid drugs until I have to. Pain is ok most opf the time but occasionally off the charts.

I am really glad I found this site. I think I have learned more here that my Dr. knows. Thank you!!! to those of you who donote so much time to it.

My attacks are 80% on the right side of my body in fingers, ankle, jaw, knee, shoulder and elbow. Some joints are often attacked, others rarely. u big fear is that it will attack my back. Does anybosy have attacjks of the joints in the spine?

Thanks

Tim Adams, Midland Michigan, USA

When I was first diagnosed with PR the doc said that it would be more treatable if it were RA. I didn't last on mtx, the dose had to be raised to the point that it was making me too sick. There is a new drug they're advertising here that enhances mtx, I've only seen the commercial a couple times so I don't remember the name.

One of the new drugs I was thinking of is Actemra but I see that it's considered a biologic. http://www.webmd.com/rheumatoid-arthrit ... ons?page=2 Researching anything is empowering and good for getting out of funks. Facts are helpful for educating hubbies, too. You are in this together and the more he knows what your family is dealing with the better. You should have heard me one time (well, more than one) when I was wailing at my husband that he didn't sign on for this and he should find a wife that didn't have all my problems. The funny thing is, I have a new friend with RA and she has done exactly the same thing. I bet we're not the only ones.

I know what you mean about wondering if your career ideas will ever happen. At my age that's not likely, but you need to keep your hopes up and think creatively about things you can do because there will likely be a breakthrough before you're too old to get something going. The rheumys have a site "Within Our Reach" raising fund because they think the time is right for an RA cure with proper funding. RA cure = big help for us, too. The other thing is that it takes all of us awhile to find our niche and your kids have only been in school...what... a week? I think you're being hard on yourself.
